Court awards $110K to Vermont man who sued Ohio patrol

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Court of Claims has approved a $110,000 settlement with a Vermont man who sued the state patrol alleging he was subjected to excessive force after a head-on crash almost a decade ago.

Eugene Wrinn, of Guilford, Vermont, said he was disoriented after the crash on Interstate 75 in September 2005 and couldn't understand a patrol officer's instructions to stay in his vehicle.

A court announcement Tuesday said Wrinn was hit in the head with a flashlight, had a stun gun used on him and was kicked in the legs when he tried to walk away.

Wrinn's lawsuit alleged he was hospitalized for five days with injuries including head trauma and ran up more than $30,000 in medical bills.

A message was left with the patrol.
