CSC football team debuts on Sept. 6


BRATTLEBORO -- Tickets for the 2014 Castleton State College football season are now available to purchase at

The Spartans begin their season on Saturday, Sept. 6, by hosting Plymouth State University at 1 p.m. Castleton State then has a week off before hosting RPI on Saturday, Sept. 20, at noon, during Homecoming Weekend. CSC will also host Anna Maria on Oct. 11 and Husson on Oct. 25 before concluding its home games on Nov. 1 against Maritime at 1 p.m.

Fans may now purchase season and single-game tickets as well as tailgating passes online. The site also allows fans to print from home, pick up at Spartan Stadium, or simply use their mobile device to gain entry on game day. The seating options are: general admission for $7, bleacher seats for $10 and $15, and premium seats for $25 apiece.

The Spartans went 4-6 overall in 2011, 6-4 in 2012, and are coming off a 1-9 season.

As a freshman, quarterback Tyler Higley of Brattleboro Union High School completed 144 of 294 passes in 2013 for 1,523 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 57 yards and a score.

Soren Pelz-Walsh, also a freshman from BUHS, caught 33 passes for 360 yards last year for the Spartans. And fullback Andrew Hale of Brattleboro was also on the Castleton State team in 2013.

The Spartans debuted with a 35-31 victory over Plymouth State last season. That was followed by losses to Endicott, Rensselaer, Husson, Mount Ida, Gallaudet, Maritime, Anna Maria, Becker, and Norwich.

There are two area runners on the Castleton State College cross country team, including Brattleboro’s Dan Rivers and Patrick Gilligan. The team will begin with home meets on Aug. 30 and Sept. 7.
