Saturday November 10, 2012

WESTMINSTER -- The Daughters of the American Revolution announced Stewart Shaughnessy has been named the Daughters of the American Revolution 2012-13 Good Citizen for Bellows Falls Union High School.

Stewart, a senior, is the son of Donald and Stacey Shaughnessy of Bellows Falls.

He was chosen based on the following criteria: Dependability (including truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality); service (including cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others); leadership (including personality, self-control and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (including unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation).

Stewart fits these characteristics well. He is a friendly, polite student who is always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone. He doesn’t wait to be asked, he just does things for others as part of his nature. Student government, sports and class activities as well as community service are part of his resume from his time at BFUHS.

Stewart is a dedicated student who takes his education seriously. He puts forth a tremendous amount of effort in his classes and works hard to improve his skills. He responds well to constructive criticism and has grown as a student over the past four years.

He is a pleasure to have in class, is attentive to class discussions, willing to lead in small groups and he offers insightful comments.

Stewart has also been named one of the BFUHS Elks’ Students of the Month, is a member of the Marilee Huntoon Jesse A. Judd Chapter of the National Honor Society, is one of the captains for the BFUHS Football team, president of the BFUHS Class of 2013 and has been involved in many community activities as well.

As a reliable and trustworthy young man, he was a valued employee at the Rockingham Recreation Department this past summer and has been an Altar Server at Saint Charles Church since third grade. He is so highly respected in this venue that many parishioners request him as an altar server for special masses (i.e. funerals, weddings, etc.). In addition, he has many other church and/or community service related activities, including coaching peewee football, coaching basketball and other activities at Kurn Hattin Homes.

Stewart is a positive role model who leads by example and as a member of the BFUHS community he has worked unselfishly to better the school and community.

After high school he plans to pursue a Navy ROTC program.
