Dr. Sheasby Matuire of Zimbabwe to provide jubilant music in Guilford


GUILFORD -- Guilford Community Church services on Sunday, June 8, will begin at the 10 a.m. New members, Shirley Clark, Melvin Meyer and Beverly Langeveld, will be welcomed and the jubilant music of Sheasby Matuire, a well-known Zimbabwean, will embody the universal joy of shared musical traditions.

Dr. Matiure is a renowned player of nyunga nyunga mbira, ngoma and marimba, as well as an accomplished choral leader.

The choir will also offer the favorite anthem "One Love" by Bob Marley. Anyone wanting to sing in the choir should arrive by 8:45 a.m. for rehearsal. Pastor Lise Sparrow will offer a homily on the amazing diversity of gifts humanity can bring to bear for the sake of the earth and each other. Scripture readings will include 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13 and Acts 2:1-21.

The Sunday School will spend the last half of the morning preparing for next week’s Graduation Service and the teens will prepare for the upcoming trip to New York City.
