Due East collaborates with Putney students as part of Yellow Barn residency
PUTNEY -- As part of Yellow Barn’s Artist Residencies program, Due East (Erin Lesser, flutes, and Greg Beyer, percussion) concludes its winter visit with students from Putney Central School for a presentation of short pieces composed by Putney Central School students using sounds collected from PCS’ nature trails and haikus composed in their English classes.
The program takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m., at the Putney Public Library. Admission is free.
Composer Elainie Lillios, who is writing a new work for Due East in collaboration with poet Wally Swist, joins Beyer and Lesser to discuss her work, which serves as a guide for the PCS project.
While in town, Due East will continue its work with Brattleboro Union High School, preparing for a performance of a concerto for rhythmic Brazilian percussion with the wind ensemble and choir, in addition to studying the Brazilian themes and Portugese texts with the school’s diversity classes.
Yellow Barn Artist Residencies provide the unique opportunity for musicians to develop projects of their own choosing in an environment conducive to undistracted study. Many residencies include in-school workshops and public concerts, allowing audiences to experience Yellow Barn year-round.
