Dueling rallies set for supporters, opponents of Syrians
MONTPELIER, VT. >> Dueling rallies are being planned outside the Vermont Statehouse for people who feel the state should do more to accommodate Syrian refugees and those who are opposed to that.
Brooke Paige of the town of Washington is inviting those opposed to an influx of Syrian refugees to the Statehouse lawn both Friday and Saturday to "express concerns with the governor's position on Syrian refugees."
Meanwhile, members of the Vermont Workers Center and other groups are planning to be at the Statehouse at the same time to show their support for bringing Syrians to the state.
Earlier this week Gov. Peter Shumlin said Vermont should welcome Syrian refugees who have been thoroughly vetted before being allowed to settle in the United States.
