Dummerston boys power VA to silver

SAXTONS RIVER -- Juniors Nate Greene and Cam Wright, both of Dummerston, recently led the Vermont Academy baseball team to a runner-up finish in the Lakes Region Prep League playoffs.

Seeded seventh, V.A. edged No. 2 Holderness School 13-12 in the opening round, blanked Kimball Union Academy 13-0 in the semifinals, and lost to Tilton Academy 6-1 in the championship game.

Wright went 4-for-5 with a homer to left and drove in four runs in the opener, went 3-for-4 with four RBI’s versus KUA, and had one of his team’s four hits versus Tilton’s Trevor Massey -- a Boston College pitching recruit.

Greene had a clutch hit in the fourth inning versus Holderness School that drove in a pair of runs. And he pitched a complete-game shutout in the second round.

And the Dummerston duo combined to make a fine defensive play against Holderness School. In the sixth inning, left fielder Nate Greene threw the ball to shortstop Cam Wright, whose relay throw got a runner out at third base.

Brattleboro American Legion teammates George Atkins and Wright were selected as Lakes Region Prep League All-Stars.
