Dummerston Women’s Assn. hosts program for World Day of Prayer
DUMMERSTON -- Worship at Dummerston Congregational Church continues a sermon series on the Seven Last Words of Jesus from the Cross on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. This week the primary scripture is John 19:19-27. The sermon is "Woman behold your son ... Son, behold your mother." The liturgy is largely taken from A Book of Worship for Free Churches; prepared for the Congregational Christian Churches in 1948.
Guest musicians, Tim and Margaret Fogg, will help lead the worship service. The children continue a Lenten series on The Parables of Jesus. This week the story is The Parable of the Talents, based on Luke 19: 11-26. Children begin in worship and then go to an open classroom, where they will continue their work on the Lord’s Prayer and learning about Kenya.
The children are taking an offering of redeemable bottles each week. People may bring their bottles to the church on Sunday, or drop them at the Redemption Center on Putney Road, behind Windham Veterinary Clinic. Just say they are for Dummerston Congregational Church and the church school will be credited. Money raised will go to provide uniforms, shoes and sweaters to children at an AIDS Orphanage in Kaiguchu, Kenya.
Non-perishable foods, toiletries, household item, blankets, tents and tarps for the Drop-In Center may be left in the church entry.
A Contemplative Prayer Service is held in the sanctuary each Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Dress warmly and come for a time of shared silence and deep peace.
The Dummerston Women’s Association will host a program on Friday, March 1, for World Day of Prayer, an ecumenical service shared by women around the world. There will be a program from 11 a.m. to noon focused on migrant workers, with guests from Migrant Justice and Doug Avery, "a friend of migrants." Learn about these workers in our midst. Stay for a simple luncheon and worship service written by the women of France. All area women are welcome to this traditional observance of World Day of Prayer.
The church is located in Dummerston Center, 1536 Middle Road, Dummerston. Dummerston Congregational Church UCC is a Green Justice Congregation of The United Church of Christ. Because the church is on the top of a mountain, worship and programs are canceled when driving is treacherous. If worship is canceled, all events for that day are canceled.
For cancellations, visit www.WTSA.net or www.WKVT.com or contact the church to be added to a calling tree. For more information about this energetic, faithful, friendly and mission-oriented church, contact Pastor Susanna Griefen, 802-257-0544, firstname.lastname@example.org.
