BRATTLEBORO >> Jacob Ellis, who is a 2012 Brattleboro Union High School graduate, continued his strong senior campaign over the weekend by capturing the 800 meter title and helping Bowdoin College win the 4x800 relay at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in Staten Island, N.Y. Ellis and the Polar Bears finished second overall among 47 scoring teams at the meet.

Ellis's time of 1:51.91 for the 800 meter (half-mile) race is the second fastest indoor 800 in Bowdoin history, lagging behind only his own school record of 1:51.06 set in 2014. It also set a new ECAC meet record, besting the previous record of 1:52.0 set in 2008 by Nick Stenuf of Nazareth College. Ellis led a dominant Bowdoin 1-2 finish in the event, as teammate Conor Donahue ran 1:52.15 to finish second, beating the next finisher by over 1.5 seconds.

In the 4x800, Ellis and Donahue teamed up with James Sullivan and John Kennealy to run a blazing 7:45.23, winning the event by six seconds. Ellis ran his 800 meters of the relay in 1:53.9 to anchor the team to victory.

Bowdoin scored points in nine different events en route to its runner-up team finish — the highest finish that the team has ever had at an ECAC Championship.

Coming up for the Bowdoin captain is the NCAA Division 3 National Championships at Grinnell College in Iowa on March 11-12. His best 800 time from this season ranks 12th in Division 3.
