Farmhouse basement key in search for Vt. couple

ESSEX (AP) - Court documents say investigators found "indications of human decomposition" in the basement of an old farmhouse while searching for a missing Essex couple in April.

The disclosure was made by Essex Police Detective Lt. George Murtie in an affidavit filed in Vermont Superior Court where death certificates are being sought for Bill and Lorraine Currier, according to reports.

Murtie's statement also reveals that police believe the Curriers were taken in their car to the farmhouse and killed there by their abductor. Murtie wrote that Essex police received this information from an FBI agent.

The Curriers were last seen leaving for work on June 8, 2011. They are believed to have arrived home before 7 p.m. They were reported missing the next day when they failed to arrive at work.
