Father: Detective answers son's phone, tells him of killing
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. >> A Long Island father says he learned that his 15-year-old son had been shot to death after he called the teen's cellphone and a police detective answered.
Raul Guzman, of Hempstead Village, tells Newsday he called his son, Joshua, on Monday to make sure the Uniondale High School sophomore was in school.
Police say the boy had been fatally shot earlier that morning in Hempstead. He was found in a street gutter.
Raul Guzman says he had told his son on Sunday not to leave the house for the rest of that day, and that Joshua said he wouldn't.
Guzman says his wife learned of their son's death while in the hospital after suffering a broken spine in a car crash about a week ago.
There have been no arrests.
