Feds bring new charges in Vermont drug conspiracy case


BURLINGTON, VT. >> A federal grand jury in Vermont has brought new charges against two New York men accused of operating a large-scale drug conspiracy in the state.

The Burlington Free Press reports 26-yea<URL destination="http://bfpne.ws/1NgVIu8">r-old Gary Delima and 26-year-old Sharif Cargo are now being accused of distributing the fatal dose of fentanyl that killed 54-year-old Gary Bashaw on July 6, 2014.

The</URL> U.S. Attorney's Office announced the new allegations Tuesday. If convicted, the two men face a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.

Delima, Cargo and 11 others were indicted in March on charges related to a conspiracy to sell heroin and cocaine in Vermont. The Brooklyn residents were also indicted on charges stemming from an alleged sex trafficking operation.

Both Delima and Cargo's attorneys say they will plead not guilty.
