First Sunday of Advent to be celebrated Dec. 2 at Centre Congregational Church

BRATTLEBORO -- The first Sunday of Advent will be celebrated at 10 a.m. worship on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro. The Rev. Carra McFadden will lead worship and her sermon title is "Make Ready: Sign of Things to Come," based on Luke 21:25-36. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be served.

The Board for Mission and Service will host fellowship hour following the service. All are invited. Also in the fireside parlor, Fair Trade items will be on sale to support the Luz del Mundo Scholarship, which provides scholarships to youth of the church’s sister parish in El Salvador. Donations toward the purchase of Christmas turkeys for the Drop-In Center will also be accepted and for the Church World Service blankets program.

On Gallery Walk Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30 to 6 p.m. in the parlor, Pastor McFadden will lead meditation with thoughts based on "Night of the Child." Twelve different creches will be featured.

Chartwell Dining Services at Landmark College continues to make monthly donations of food to Loaves and Fishes hot meal site on the first Wednesday of each month. Executive Chef Carol welcomes representatives of the recipient group during midday meal-time at the college cafeteria.
