Five youths and five adults prepare for El Salvador visit
BRATTLEBORO -- A team of five youth and five adults from Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro will depart Feb. 16 on a six-day visitation to its sister parish in El Salvador. They will be commissioned during the regular 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday, Feb. 10.
The team consists of the Rev. Carra McFadden, John McFadden, Ron Svec, Jenifer Ambler, Beatrice Blake, Haley Marcil, Tori Svec, Kathryn Fecto, Kate Maisner and Emma Rueter. They will be met by a team there, and together will participate in the Peace Project, focusing on non-violent communication.
At this Sunday’s service, Pastor Carra will preach on "Take Time to be Holy," based on the story of the Transfiguration in the scripture text from Luke 9:28-36.
Laura Schairbaum will offer a Mission Moment as the Southeastern Vermont Long Term Recovery raises funds from a Quilt Raffle, which will be on display in the parlor. Also in the parlor cafe tables will be set up during Fellowship Hour for conversation around the Rise Up! Project the church has embarked on. All are welcome.
Kidz Club will meet during worship in the annex, under the leadership of Director of Christian Education Michael Mario. Special offerings for February support the Overflow Shelter and the Morningside Shelter, both in Brattleboro.
The weekly adult book study precedes worship at 9 a.m., and on Wednesday night Bible Study takes place at the home of Gisela Robeck, 63 Green Meadows Rd., West Brattleboro, from 7 - 8:30 p.m.
The memorial service for Ernest Rueter is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 12 with a light reception following in the parlor.
His recently published book, "All the Way to Mobile," may be purchased after worship and during regular office hours. Rueter became interested in the role of the Erie Canal and the developing railway system in American history through his great-grandfather, George C. Gorham and his editorials in 1861.
