Franklin stays on top at Brattleboro Decathlon
BRATTLEBORO -- Will Franklin retained his crown as Brattleboro’s greatest athlete in the 3rd Annual Brattleboro Decathlon. Franklin’s victory was fueled by a sweep in the throwing events for the second straight year. He also registered victories in the 100 meter dash and long jump giving him gold in six of the ten events.
Franklin was not as strong on the track as last year, but in addition to the six first place finishes, he also set decathlon records in the keg toss, driver throw, and the long jump.
Dan Barile made his mark on the track where he set decathlon records in the 300 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, and the mile.
Rounding out the podium was Brian Lashway, who claimed victory in the vertical jump over Franklin, the record holder, and held off a surprising effort from Brendan Rogers.
In the team competition, Barile, Oscar Smith and Naomi Pollica claimed victory with 187 points. They won the 300m hurdles, 400m, mile, driver throw and football throw. The team of Brian Lashway, Brendan Rogers, Stephanie Pierce and John Barton took second with 175.5 points with wins in the keg toss and vertical jump. One point behind in third was Franklin, Eric Lashway and Cassie Bratton, who won the 100m, long jump, and frisbee toss.
