Getting back to when life was easier

Wednesday October 24, 2012

Everyone has the right to be stupid, but some are abusing that right. Whenever I sit in front of the flickering, mind-numbing devise in the corner of the living room I have to go to some non-violent Buddhist place. I have to get to my Zen place before the idiocrasy takes over and I wind up with elevated blood pressure screaming at that box which I also refer to as opiate of the masses, and that might just be because I’ve accidentally tuned in to a minute and half of Honey Boo Boo! Yeah, you would think it would be because of the election season, and while that does weigh in on it a bit, it’s not the sole purpose for my elevated disappointment in the human race.

But while I’m on it Š Honey Boo Boo! This, as far as I can see, is the biggest visual abortion that’s accompanied oral flatulence while witnessing how a 6-year-old child should never act. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that we as Americans love our train wrecks, especially those we can pause if we need to make a trip to the bathroom. But I’ve got to say this (and please, if you watch this show I don’t want you to take this as a judgment), your soul is dying. If you continue to watch this program you yourself will be offered a reality show, not because you’ve got something to offer, nope - because you’ve develop the ability to blow a snot bubble the size of a basketball without knowing it. Again, I want you to know that I understand the need to check out, I get it. Some watch sports, some watch soaps, some watch reality TV - as long as we all understand that every time we turn on that box we turn off our heads.

But while I’m talking about turned off heads and people abusing their right to be stupid Š Donald Trump. Apparently at some point in time today he’s going to release the "October Surprise" that will have a great impact on the upcoming election. Some past October Surprises included the 2000 election of George W. Bush and his arrest for drunken driving, then in 2004 the disappearance of a huge cache of explosives from a warehouse. So here’s your surprise both times this country elected George W. Bush - SURPRISE! But The Donald has this "secret" and he won’t even tell his good buddies at Fox & Friends what it is, but he promises that "they’ll" want to cover it. Sure they would, just like MSNBC would want to cover a juicy made up story about Mitt Romney. I would caution you all to listen to Donald Trump with the same level attention a teenage boy playing a video game listens to his mother: You hear her - you just don’t respond. And if Donald Trump really wants to surprise me he’ll stop calling his show Celebrity Apprentice and change it to "Wow, They’re Still Alive Apprentice."

But while I’m talking about things that are still alive Š America. Yup, sometimes I think we’re only hanging on by a thread, and yes it seems like the cream doesn’t get paraded in front of us (Honey Boo Boo, Donald Trump, etc.), I still believe that deep down inside we all want to do good. We all want a world that doesn’t need a military, a world where we can open the door in the morning and tell our kids to be home in time for dinner and never give it a second thought. I know we all want that, but at the moment we don’t have it. So sometimes I get down on our country and how polarized we’ve become, but then I attend a fundraiser and I see firsthand how everyone can come together. It’s then I realize we’re not dead. America has a pulse, and on a whole we’re all pretty smart folks that want to live in peace. But we need to start working a little harder towards getting back to a time where life was easier and stop pushing the like of Trump and Boo Boo into the spotlight. What the hell is up with that!
