Gilligan helps Norwich capture title


BRATTLEBORO >> Brattleboro Union High School graduate Ryan Gilligan placed 9th overall in a time of 28:58 to help the Norwich University men's cross-country team win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship on Halloween in Maine.

The Cadets began the season by winning the Southern Vermont Invitational. They have also been the runner-up in the Middlebury College Invite, Vermont State Meet in Johnson, and the Emmanuel College Invitational.

Gilligan's 2015 results look like this: 13th in Southern Vermont Invite in 18:33, 25th at Middlebury College Invite in 30:57, 25th at Vermont State Meet in 28:29, 31st at the Emmanuel College Invite in 28:23, and then ninth out of 74 runners on Saturday.

The 2014 BUHS graduate placed 19th in 18:17 at the Vermont State Meet as a senior last fall. Among Gilligan's teammates were Tyler Clement, Jonah Koch, Josh Meachen, Colin Costa-Walsh, and Phelan Muller.

Norwich will compete in the Division 3 New England Regionals on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Harness Park in Waterford, Conn.
