Goddard helps Badgers to 5-5 mark


BRATTLEBORO — Ashley Goddard, who was a three-sport star at Leland & Gray, has helped the Johnson State College women's basketball team to a 5-5 record.

The junior forward from Jamaica, Vt. has started seven out of 10 games for the Badgers this season. Goddard is averaging 7.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She has made three trifectas and is 10-for-17 from the charity stripe.

Goddard has scored in double figures in three games. She put up 16 points in a 68-61 victory over Pine Manor, pumped in 11 during a loss to Castleton, and finished with 10 versus Green Mountain.

Goddard and the Badgers will play at Colby-Sawyer on Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. Their next home game will take place on Jan. 15 versus Husson at 5:30 p.m.

As a senior at Leland & Gray, Goddard's varsity basketball teammates were Jordan Gouger, Chelby Nystrom, Adrienne Derry, Abby Winrich, Alex Morrow, Natalia Coelho, Elizabeth Gallup, Haley Buffum and Casey Williams. And that team was coached by Gregg Morrow.

The daughter of Richard Goddard and Duffy Chapin is majoring in Elementary Education at JSC.
