Green Mountain Power alerts customers to phone scam

Wednesday January 23, 2013

On Jan. 8, several small businesses in the Rutland area received phone calls from an individual using a blocked number, who claimed to be representing Green Mountain Power. The caller requested that the business owners pay their account balance by releasing credit card information to the caller, or they would have their electric service disconnected later in the evening.

Green Mountain Power has no made calls of this nature. It is warning all its customers to be aware of such fraudulent activity. If you receive a similar call, please contact the Vermont State Police or your local law enforcement agency. Do not provide the caller with any personal information.
