Green Mountain RSVP celebrates 'Stuff the Bus'

BRATTLEBORO— The staff at Green Mountain RSVP Volunteer Center gave a hearty thank-you – on behalf of the Groundworks Collaborative Food Shelf, Agape Fellowship Food Shelf, St. Brigid's Kitchen and Putney Food Shelf – to the many volunteers that collected food from Hannaford shoppers on Saturday, Jan. 16, during the Stuff the Bus food shelf benefit.

The public response was phenomenal and volunteers heard so many stories how people have been helped by area food shelves. Over 1,900 pounds of food was donated in just six hours and loaded onto a bus provided by Southeast Vermont Transit, The Current, so it could be sorted and boxed up for delivery. Jason O'Brian of Vermont DMV delivered scales to weigh the bus at the end of the day.

RSVP recruits and places volunteers with many area nonprofits and organizations that deliver hot meals, staff food pantries, visit and give rides to seniors and help keep our aging population more connected to the community. RSVP says this event exemplifies so much of what the group tries to do in the community.
