Guilford church to host remembrance event for Sandy Hook tragedy

Wednesday December 19, 2012

GUILFORD -- The Guilford Community Church will host an hour of chant and meditation from 4 to 5 p.m. today in remembrance of those whose lives were taken last Friday in the tragedy at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn.

This hour has been set aside each week in December for a period of silence and chanting from the Taize tradition under the leadership of Rev. Larrimore Crockett. This week an opening and closing prayer will invite remembrance and healing for all who lives have been touched by this tragedy. The chants come from an ecumenical monastic order in Taizé, Saône-et-Loire, Burgundy, France. It is composed of about one hundred brothers, from Protestant and Catholic traditions, who originate from about 30 countries across the world. The monastic order has a strong devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation.

Guilford Community Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ and is fully handicapped accessible. It is located one mile south of exit 1 on Route 5 just in back of the Guilford Country Store. All are welcome.
