Halifax plow truck damaged by fire
HALIFAX - A fire in one of the town trucks caused the Selectboard to hold an emergency meeting Morning morning.
"I was just able to take a look at it," said Selectboard member Edee Edwards. "The cab is looking pretty bad."
The truck was one of the town's plow and dump trucks and it went on fire on Dec. 29 on Jacksonville Stage Road. It occurred some time at night.
The Halifax Fire Department responded. Edwards wasn't sure if any other emergency responders came to the scene.
The board did not yet know the cause of the fire when it met at 9 a.m. on Monday. Board members made some phone calls to the insurance company concerning what steps to take towards replacing the truck, but with the holidays, they haven't heard anything back yet. The truck was the most recently purchased piece of equipment for the town.
"It was something we paid off the lease to earlier this year," Edwards said.
At the meeting, the board discussed ways to maintain services to the town during the winter, being down a truck, and reduce the risks for using town equipment in the future.
"We looked at options like interlocal agreements with towns."
This may include the possible use of other nearby towns' equipment and personnel.
The board also talked about what it would take to purchase a replacement, but it is planning to work out the details with the insurance company.
"We're trying to cover all bases. We want to get the message out that citizens should be patient in the short-term as we're reconfiguring routes."
Edwards mentioned that the forecast for the week looked good. It doesn't appear that any big snowstorms are heading this way and the temperature is expected to rise.
