Thursday May 2, 2013

BRATTLEBORO -- Barnaby’s, 95 Main St., presents a night of experimental music on Monday, May 6, at 8 p.m., featuring the Happy Jawbone Family Band of Brattleboro, Bird Names (recent Brattleboro transplants) and Toupee and Potions from Chicago. Cover is $3.

The Happy Jawbone Family Band is a bunch of local odd-ball popsters, who have made some serious national waves, getting glowing coverage in Pitchfork Media and getting signed to Brooklyn-based Mexican Summer Records. This is the band’s first local show in months. Visit www.happyjawbone.com.

Bird Names is a long-running psychedelic pop band which recently moved to Brattleboro from Athens, Ga., and Chicago and is about to drop a new full-length album. This show marks the debut of a new heavy shredding live band. Visit www.birdnamesmusic.com.

Joining the bill from Chicago is Toupee, a female-fronted space rock group. They can bring the heavy rumble but also some chill melodic stuff. Visit teenriver.bandcamp.com/album/dinner-party.

Opening the show, also from Chicago is Potions, which offers freaky synthesizer atmospheres to zone way out to. Visit otionsmusic.bandcamp.com.
