ARLINGTON — In the first round of the Werner Tournament, the Twin Valley varsity boys soccer team nipped host Arlington 1-0.

"It was back and forth all night. It was very physical and hard fought from start to finish," said Wildcats coach Buddy Hayford, who earned his record 400th career coaching win on the pitch.

Colin McHale scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute, assisted by James McGovern on a corner kick.

Twin Valley goalies Logan Boyd and Josh Carpenter O'Hearn made two and seven saves respectively to combine for the shutout. Carpenter-O'Hearn made two difficult stops in the second half, according to coach Hayford.

The 6-0 Wildcats will face Springfield in the Werner championship game on Thursday in Arlington at 7 p.m.
