Art as medicine fundraise benefits Gathering in Gratitude

BRATTLEBORO >> Art as Medicine on April 17 is a day-long festival and fundraiser for Mahalo Art Center's Gathering in Gratitude cultural exchange and journey to South Dakota.

The day's activities at 118 Elliot St. include an opening ceremony at 10 a.m, brunch, six afternoon workshops, a raffle and silent auction, dinner, a film and the presentation of a live and audience-participatory Gathering in Gratitude at 7:30 p.m.. The day culminates with an art party from 8:30 to 11 p.m. featuring music, visual arts, dance and poetry.

In South Dakota, the Vermont delegation will co-create and offer presentations at the Spiritual Unity of Tribes Gathering of Eagles in Hill City from June 21 to June 25 and at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from June 26 to July 3.

Tai Chi classes

BRATTLEBORO >> Stephen Green of Guilford will once again offer a series of seven Tai Chi classes at the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main St., on Wednesdays, starting April 20 and running through June 1. The classes, from 10 to 11 a.m., are part of the Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department's long running program in Tai Chi.

Green is certified by the Arthritis Foundation in the instruction of Tai Chi for health and arthritis. The program uses gentle Sun Style routines that are safe, easy to learn and suitable for every fitness level. It is a powerful tool in healing and strengthening the body, mind and spirit. Flowing movements improve balance, increase flexibility and joint mobility and reduce stress.

Active parenting program starts April 27

LONDONDERRY >> The Collaborative and Windham County Partnership for Success will offer the new Active Parenting of Teens program for parents and caregivers of children ages 11- to 18.

The five-session video and discussion program will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays (April 27 and May 4, 11, 18 and 25) at The Collaborative located at 91 Route 11 11 (behind Flood Brook School). Registration is required. Quality childcare will be provided with advanced notice. Dinner will be provided at 5 p.m.
