High school choirs perform 'Carmina Burana'

BRATTLEBORO >> In a community celebration of Spring, the Blanche Moyse Chorale joins the Windham Orchestra and Windham County high school choirs in performances of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana."

Carmina! A Concinnity of Choral Community Collaboration! will feature student singers from Brattleboro Union High School, Bellows Falls Union High School, and Leland and Grey Union High School. They are joined by the Blanche Moyse Chorale and the Windham Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Hugh Keelan for two exciting performances of this raucous, lusty, joyful, terrifying, gloriously theatrical spectacle.

Performances are scheduled Friday at 7:30 p.m., Bellows Falls Union High School Auditorium in Westminster, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Brattleboro Union High School, in Brattleboro. Tickets range from $5 to $50.

"Carmina Burana is a work encompassing rustic serenity, the passions of the senses, cosmic awe, and an unsurpassed aliveness in delivering the experience of being human," says Keelan. "This production will feature soprano Kate Saik and tenor Cailin Marcel Manson."

Soloists will include student Sungho Moon, winner of the annual Windham Orchestra Concerto Competition, as well as Simon Herron, who will play a solo for marimba and orchestra composed by his brother, Felix Herron.
