Hoop Shoot is Dec. 14


WESTMINSTER -- The Bellows Falls Elks #1619 will be holding its annual Hoop Shoot Contest at Bellows Falls Union High School on Saturday, Dec.14, 2013, from 10 a.m. to noon. Children in Westminster and Bellows Falls, along with surrounding towns such as Charlestown, Kurn Hattin, North Walpole, Walpole, Vilas, Alstead and Langdon, are encouraged to attend.

Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. This is for boys and girls from the ages of 8-13 (as long as their birthday is before April 1, 2014). This is an Elk National Event, with the final winners going to Springfield, Mass., at the Basketball Hall of Fame for the final rounds.

Rusin news

BURLINGTON -- Former Twin Valley High School star Candon Rusin is averaging 8.4 points per game for the University of Vermont’s mens basketball team. He has started eight of the team’s nine games this season, going 14-for-40 from downtown and making eight of his 14 free throws.

The 3-6 Catamounts have defeated Siena, Illinois State and Sonoma State thus far. They lost at No. 6 Duke, 91-90, on Nov. 24, as freshman phenom Jabari Parker went off for 26 points.

Rusin, a 6-4 senior guard from Wilmington, scored 25 points versus Stony Brook last season. He averaged 7.5 points per game as a junior.

Brattleboro Rec Hoops

BRATTLEBORO -- The men’s basketball season will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 4, with two games at the Gibson-Aiken Center -- Green Mtn./Commonwealth will face VT Pressure Wash/Paint at 7 p.m. and then Bball Joes will take on Manifesto at 8:15 p.m. The women’s league openers were played on Monday, with Timberly against Ashley’s and Houghton versus Chroma.
