Ice it: Four icing recipes to top your holiday sweets
Simple, sweet cookie icing
Combine 1 cup powdered sugar,
2-3 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Stir in food coloring to create colorful cookies. This icing will dry more like a glaze on your cookies.
Rich cream cheese frosting
In a large bowl, beat together 4 oz unsalted butter, softened and 4 oz softened cream cheese. Add 2 cups of powdered sugar, a cup at a time, until smooth and creamy. Beat in 1 tsp. vanilla extract.
Maple-flavored icing for cakes
Mix 2 sticks (8 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature; 3/4 cup powdered sugar; 1 cup maple syrup; 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Use immediately or refrigerate.
Ganache glaze for Bundt cake
Bring 1 1/4 cups heavy cream and 1 Tbs. light corn syrup to a simmer over medium heat. Pour over 8 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped; let stand for 1 minute. Stir until shiny and smooth.
