Inferno hosts Murphy’s Blues
BRATTLEBORO -- On Friday, the Cider Award-winning blues band, Murphy’s Blues, will take to the stage at the Inferno on Elliot Street, following Gallery Walk.
Founded in 2000, Murphy’s Blues has spent the last 13 years performing throughout New England. The seven-piece band was recognized as the area’s "Favorite Blues Band" at the 2nd Annual Cider Awards in Rutland last month.
The founding members of Murphy’s Blues have a long history performing, touring and developing their musical chops alongside regional icons such as Big Joe Burrell, R&B piano icon Harry Vann Walls, Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson, Jonathan Edwards and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, among others.
Murphy’s Blues recently added Brattleboro-based singer/songwriter Cyndi Cain as its lead female vocalist. Cain currently performs with local Afrobeat band Alafia, was the lead singer in former local funk band SugarHouse, and she has performed in or organized countless benefits for local causes over the 15 years since she moved to the area.
The Murphy’s Blues song list includes R&B, soul, funk, rock, blues, a little bit of New Orleans and originals done in a playful and powerful style that keeps people out on the dance floor. The members of Murphy’s Blues are: Dave Brown (bass, backing vocals), Cyndi Cain, (lead vocals and percussion), Jim Murphy (lead vocals, guitar, blues harp), Ben Perez (percussion), Glenn Rogers (drums, backing vocals), Bill Symonds (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Fred Tipton (sax).
