Jamaica Community Church holds candelight Dec. 24 service
JAMAICA -- Come and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ at the Jamaica Community Church’s Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, Monday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. The sidewalk outside the church will be lit with luminaries made during an intergenerational craft event.
During the service, the congregation will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in scripture and carols, while preparing their hearts to receive the Christ Child.
The service is crafted around the Christmas Eve Meditation poem titled "Come and Worship," by Jeffrey O. Jones.
The service will include readings by congregational members, as well as a Children’s Story, special music by the choir, and the singing of Christmas carols.
The service ends with the congregation lighting their candles from the Advent Wreath Christ candle. As poet Jeffrey Jones wrote, "There is a certain stillness to this moment." Participants will leave with the Light of the Christ Child in their hearts, taking that light into the world with them.
The Jamaica Community Church is located on Route 30 in the heart of Jamaica village. Call 802-874-7019 for more information.
