Jasper Quartet caps Yellow Barn residency with concert on Friday
PUTNEY -- Yellow Barn’s Artist Residencies continue this month with the Jasper String Quartet and the flute-percussion duo Due East.
The Jasper String Quartet’s weeklong residency wraps up Friday with a concert of Mendelssohn and Beethoven at Next Stage at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12.
On Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m., at the Putney Public Library, Due East (Erin Lesser, flutes, and Greg Beyer, percussion) concludes their winter visit with students from Putney Central for a presentation of short pieces composed by Putney Central School students using sounds collected from PCS’s nature trails and haikus composed in classes. Admission is free.
Composer Elainie Lillios, who is writing a new work for Due East in collaboration with poet Wally Swist, joins Beyer and Lesser to discuss her work, which serves as a guide for the PCS project.
Due East will continue its work with Brattleboro Union High School, preparing for a performance of a concerto for rhythmic Brazilian percussion with the wind ensemble and choir, in addition to studying the Brazilian themes and Portugese texts with the school’s diversity classes.
Yellow Barn Artist Residencies provide the opportunity for musicians to develop projects in an environment conducive to undistracted study. For more information, visit www.yellowbarn.org, or call 802-387-6637.
