Job, Jesus and the Prodigal Son are topics at Guilford Church
GUILFORD -- The Second Sunday of Lent, Feb. 24, at Guilford Community Church will focus on forgiveness: through parable, song and scripture.
The confirmation class will present the forgiveness story of Jesus on the cross between the two thieves as a children’s story after which the children through the eighth grade are invited to Sunday School. Music under the direction of Tony Barrand includes the "God of the Second Chance" and "I’ll Die No More for Bread." The scripture readings are the letter by Paul on forgiveness found in 2 Corinthians 2: 5-11 and the parable of the Lost Son found in Luke 15: 11-32.
After the 10 a.m. worship service the Lenten series will continue, with soup, bread and discussion under the leadership of the Rev. Larrimore Crockett who will share reflections on the story of Job, a man who had trouble forgiving God. Rev. Crockett will bring his expertise on Old Testament scripture to this story sharing with us connections to our own losses. Other Lenten offerings include Wednesday Meditations from 4 to 5 p.m. in the sanctuary and the Prayer Shawl Ministry which takes place at the same time. Everyone is welcome to all events.
Guilford Community Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ and is fully handicapped accessible.
An ASL interpreter and hearing assistance is provided. The church is located one mile south of exit 1 on Route 5 just in back of the Guilford Country Store. For more information, call 802-257-2776 or check the website at www.guilfordchurch.org.
