Joint town/school district meeting in Athens
ATHENS -- Two of the biggest articles on the town warrant this year pertain to funding for its students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Article 10 asks voters if they will approve the Athens/Grafton Contract budget K-6 expenses of $1,461,890 -- which includes a $500 compensation for each school director. Article 11 seeks to raise and appropriate $739,729 for the education of the town's K-8 students for the period of July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014. This will include $750 in compensation for the town treasurer.
Voters will be able to have their voices heard on these articles and others in addition to electing all town and school district officers at Tuesday's annual joint town and town school district meeting at the elementary school. The meeting is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
Articles 12 through 22 will determine if voters raise and appropriate sums of money (from $50 to $1,350) for a variety of causes and services.
Approval of Article 6 would establish Sept. 10, 2013, as tax collection while Article 7 asks the voters if they wish to publish a list of delinquent taxpayers in the town report and Article 8 asks how many dollars will be raised to defray town expenses.
Adoption of Article 9 would mean $10,000 gets set aside as a capital reserve fund for improvements to the town office.
