Jon Gregg to give artist talk

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts will host an artist talk by the gallery's current featured artist Jon Gregg on Saturday at 5 p.m. Jon Gregg: evolving a mark will be on exhibit at both MGFA locations at 183 Main Street and the new MGFA Annex at 132 Main Street in the Brooks House Atrium through Aug. 14.

Jon Gregg's work features gestural, abstract, richly textured oil paintstick on paper and canvas. Fortress-like structures and crowded spaces are central themes, even as his characters are caught mid-narrative, jostled by insistent markmaking and surface activity.

Gregg studied architecture under Louis Kahn; then in 1984 he and his wife Louise von Weise founded the Vermont Studio Center where he remained director until 2014. He paints and draws continuously, often filling volumes and sketchbooks during his travels abroad.

Mitchell•Giddings Fine Arts is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
