Joslyn takes 3-mile Fun Run

BRATTLEBORO -- Fourteen people chose to compete in the three-mile race during Wednesday’s Fun Run on Upper Dummerston Road. Clint Joslyn finished first in 18:57, and he was followed home by: Ryan Gilligan (20:49), Patrick Gilligan (20:52), Conor Patrick O’Donnell (21:51), John Majonen (21:54), Chuck Adams (23:12), Doug Rogers (23:16), Angella Joslyn (24:08), Eric Evans (25:03), Doug McCrae (25:57), Linda O’Donnell (26:28), Celia Cota (29:03), Serge Pouliot (32:29) and Ellen Cota (38:20).

In the two-miler, Katherine Innis prevailed in 14:20. Rounding out the field were: Nancy Johnston (15:32), Mandy Lewis (18:29), Sash Lewis (18:36) and eight-year-old Jace Joslyn (19:00).

Peyton Joslyn, the youngest competitor at age 5, won the one-mile heat in an impressive 11:32. Participating in the 2.4-mile trail run were Fred Ross (21:11) and Glenn Gilligan (25:50).

The next Fun Run will be held on July 10, on Upper Dummerston Road by the country club, starting at 6:30 p.m.

GML Baseball

SAXTONS RIVER -- The Saxtons River Pirates lost three games Sunday to the Barre Braves in Green Mountain League baseball action. The first game was the completion of a suspended game from June 2 and the Pirates lost by a score of 3-0. In the second game, the Pirates wasted a pitching gem by Alex Drost in losing a tight 1-0 game.

In Game 3, Cooper Long and Marty Vallender pitched well for the Pirates, and the Barre Braves pushed across a run in the 7th inning to break a 3-3 tie and give them the 4-3 win.

Andrew Robbins had 2 RBIs for the Pirates who fell to 8-8 in the Green Mountain League.

Saxtons River will host the Bellows Falls Legion team in a noon game on July 4.

Monadnock Speedway

WINCHESTER, N.H. -- As of June 22, the point standings leaders at Monadnock Speedway are: Tyler Jarvenpaa (Sportsman Modifieds), Bill Johnston (Super Stocks), Chris McTaggart (Mini Stocks), Chris Davis (Lightning Stocks) and Ed Lofland (Thunder Stocks).

Area drivers currently in the Top 10 are: Alyssa Rivera of Bellows Falls, Putney’s Dana Shepard, Winchester’s own Mike Stebbins, Julia Raymond and Davis, Hillary Renaud of Vernon, and Brattleboro’s Dick Houle.

The Firecracker 100 is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. General admission is $25 per adult, with the Valenti Modified Racing Series and a fireworks display being the features.

Goodhue Named Coach

WESTMINSTER -- Joe Goodhue was recently named the new Bellows Falls varsity girls head basketball coach, taking over for Justin Aube who decided to step down. Joining Goodhue to coach the JV team and assist with varsity will be Todd Wells.
