Keene, N.H., baby is first born into New Year

KEENE, N.H. >> Little Harper Newell was supposed to have been born on Christmas Eve 2015.

Even though she arrived late, her timing was impeccable — Harper was the first baby born in a local hospital on New Year's Day 2016.

"She's beautiful," said Sarah Newell, the mother of Harper. She said the pregnancy was difficult as she was often sick, but now that Harper is in the world, she is happy to hold her in her arms.

Harper was born at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene at 4:58 a.m. on Jan. 1, weighing in at 7 pounds and 13 ounces and was 20 inches long. Her baby girl's name was inspired from a character from the television show, General Hospital, one of Sarah's favorite soap operas.

Sarah, 35, has lived in Keene for nearly two years and moved from Winchester, where she grew-up. Harper is the seventh child that Sarah has given birth to, and she says that her twin 14-year-old boys, Mason and Austin are excited to have a new baby sister. Sarah's other children are Desiree, 11; Abrea, 8; Trinity, 5 and Kingston, 3.

Sarah would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene for helping her deliver the baby. She also expressed deep gratitude towards her aunt Wendy Brown who supported her while she was in labor.
