Kids In Coats applications due Oct. 14

BRATTLEBORO — As you may know, 2015 was the final year of the Reformer Christmas Stocking program. In its place, United Way of Windham County has established the Kids in Coats Fund to help Windham County families access winter outerwear for their children.

Here is a summary of the eligibility guidelines for KIC, which represent a change from the Stocking guidelines: Children ages newborn to grade 6 are eligible for assistance; children must reside in Windham County; families must be at or below 130 percent of federal poverty level; families will receive vouchers (valid Nov. 1, 2016, to Jan. 31, 2017) for use at participating stores (inc. resale and retail) to purchase winter outerwear, providing them more flexibility based on their resources; and all eligible families may not receive assistance, due to limited resources.

There will be a lottery system for all eligible families.

Attached is a copy of the 2016 Kids in Coats application and instructions for your use/distribution. This information is also being mailed to at least one person per referral agency/organization. Please share it with anyone else within your organization who may refer families to this program! All applications must come through a referral source; no self-referrals are accepted.

Completed applications must be received by United Way by Oct. 14, to be considered for any assistance.
