WOODFORD -- Brattleboro’s Halie Lange completed the Marble Valley League Nordic skiing sweep on Wednesday by winning the girls classic race at Prospect Mountain in 18:03.

Lange, who had cruised to victory in the skate portion last week at Grafton Ponds, faced her rival in the classic and beat runnerup Chloe Levins of Rutland by 46 seconds.

Brattleboro’s Linnea Jahn placed 10th in 21:33.

The Colonel boys finished third behind MAU and Woodstock. Rutland’s Isaac Wright won the race in 15:47.

Leading BUHS were: Graham Glennon, 5th, 17:01; Austin Lester, 15th, 19:00; Oliver Pomazi, 17th, 19:12; and Declan King, 21st, 21:17.

Girls Basketball

Hinsdale 42, Nute 8

HINSDALE, N.H. -- Backcourt mates Allison Scott and Skylar Bonnette scored 14 and 12 points respectively as the Hinsdale girls basketball team remained unbeaten on Wednesday afternoon.

"We obviously took charge early," said Pacers coach Terry Bonnette, whose team improved to 17-0 with the win. "We played smothering defense. Even the girls off the bench played good defense. To hold them to eight points is pretty good."

That performance came less than 24 hours after the Pacers limited Mascenic to just two points in the first half of Tuesday’s contest.

"Our offense wasn’t that great on Tuesday, but we looked pretty good against Nute. We moved the ball around well and shot a little better."

On Friday night at 7, the undefeated Pacers will host 16-1 Sunapee -- a team they beat 43-36 in the first meeting this season.

"They play a full-court game. They will press, they like to run and they can shoot the 3. They mixed it up on defense against us last time, using some man and some 1-3-1 zone," noted coach Bonnette.

Team Unified

HANOVER, N.H. -- Hinsdale Team Unified edged Hanover, 29-28, on Tuesday. Kobe Boudreau led the winners with 16 points on several smooth swishes, while Sam Calderwood chipped in six and Trevor Grover added a few layups. Ashlyn Murano played solid defense to hold one of Hanover’s top scorers to only four points. Hinsdale improved to 3-1 and will host Keene today at 4 p.m. for its Senior Night.

8th Grade Boys Hoops

CHARLESTOWN, N.H. -- Leland & Gray rode its strong team defense to a resounding 62-29 victory over Green Mountain in the semifinals of the Charlestown Tournament. The Rebels never surrendered more than 10 points in any one quarter, despite playing the New Hampshire standard eight-minute frames. Jake Wilkins led the defensive onslaught, forcing numerous turnovers and converting the steals into points. Wilkins totaled 18 of his 24 points in the pivotal third quarter. The Rebels outscored Green Mountain 28-4 in the quarter as they took control of the game. Bryce Karg dropped in 19 points and Aaron Claussen added 11, but team defense was the mantra for the day as the Rebels never let the Chieftains find their stride offensively. Leland and Gray will play in the championship game on Friday against the winner of the Charlestown-Bellows Falls match-up.
