Leland & Gray camping program SPAE welcoming students

TOWNSHEND >> The ninth summer of Leland and Gray's Summer Performing Arts Explorations is fast approaching! SPAE originated as a way to provide a program for the youth of Windham County to come together and create something as a whole. Over ninety campers have come through SPAE which explains how we are able to build a staff largely made up of SPAE alumni!

From our first summer in 2008 with 10 campers in our production of "Peter Pan" to last summer's performance of "The Lorax" with a cast of 37 players, SPAE has certainly evolved greatly over the past eight years. We've held workshops led by area professionals in vocal performance, music creation, mask making, light design, sound design, set design, movement and dance, puppet making, and more. Last summer's first SPAE square dance was such a success we look forward to having another one this summer!

Check out the SPAE blog and see what last year's program looked like at summerperformingartsexplorations.wordpress.com We will continue to build it this year so families can track our progress and get involved!

Camp runs from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 25 to Aug. 5, with performances on Friday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday Aug. 6 at 3 p.m. SPAE is located in the Dutton Building on the campus of Leland and Gray on Rte. 30 in Townshend. We welcome students going into grades five through eight. Cost will be $255 per student, sliding scale available upon request. Please contact Abby Wicker at wickerabby@gmail.com.
