Leland & Gray girls edge Wildcats on pitch
WILMINGTON >> Ashley Bates tallied twice and Rachel Borgesen also scored to help the Leland & Gray varsity girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Twin Valley.
"Twin Valley gave this one away and it will sting for awhile," said Wildcats coach Chris Walling. "Leland & Gray outworked us for much of the game, however in the second half, we did a better job of going to the ball and playing the the ball to our speedsters up front."
Karlee Walkowiak and Caitlin Hunt did the damage for the hosts, with assists coming from Hunt and Kassidy Walkowiak.
WESTMINSTER >> Bellows Falls lost to Hartford, 30-22. Hartford scored the go-ahead touchdown with 8.5 seconds left in the game, from the 5 yard line. Bellows Falls was up 22-14 at the half, thanks to two touchdown runs from Brendan Kendall, and one pass from Noah Wilkinson to Sam Mellish. This loss puts the JV Purple Gang at 1-1 on the season and they play next Monday at MAU at 430 p.m.
Zinabu McNeice had a hat trick to lead the Brattleboro Storm 13U team to a 9-0 victory over the Mount Hermon Wolves in a Connecticut River Valley League contest. Alex Shriver scored three goals in the Brattleboro Storm 13U B team's 9-0 decision over Frontier. Gabe Alexander went off for seven winners as the Brattleboro Storm 8U team took care of the Mount Hermon Wolves 8-1. Evan Enheut split the posts once when the Brattleboro Storm 11U squad fell to the West County Wildcats, 3-1.
BRATTLEBORO >> Brattleboro Bowl has begun accepting signups for its youth bowling league this year for all abilities ages 5-18. The first session will be Tuesday nights at 6:30 beginning Oct. 4 and runs until Dec. 6. The cost for those who prefer bumpers is $6 per week and $8 per week for all others (both prices include shoe rentals). Youth awards, coaching and the end of season party are just part of the fun. This is the first year bowling is being offered as a high school varsity sport, so it is not too early to learn to bowl. Sign your child up for the lifetime sport of bowling.
