Letter: A simple solution

A simple solution

Editor of the Reformer:

Act 46 has pushed consolidation on school districts and is pitting town against town as tuitioning and non-tuitioning districts are being forced to adopt a single model to impose on all. Towns that offer choice are reluctant to give up this cost effective way of assuring families can find the best option to serve their individual child. A simple solution to help bring communities together would be to allow tuitioning and non-tuitioning districts to coexist in the same merged district. House bill 579 and Senate bill 249 propose this solution that would facilitate consolidation in all the supervisory unions in our region as well as others throughout the state. Contact your legislative representatives to support this simple amendment to help make consolidation work for towns (and students) throughout the state.
