How did this happen?

Editor of the Reformer:

I would like to draw your attention to the column in Thursday’s paper, April 18, on the editorial page about gun control. Excellent article!

The NRA controls the Senate by giving them large amounts of money. They are bribing them to do what they want. Is this America? And everyone knows about it, even the president. How did this happen, where a group of morons have that power? Think about that.

What’s fair?

Editor of the Reformer:

If I as a physician practicing in Vermont cannot accept so much as a cookie or a pen from a drug company representative, how is it that members of our government can accept as much as $59,000 from the gun lobby?

Dealing with wounds

Editor of the Reformer:

The Boston Marathon bombing was a trauma to all -- individuals, communities, our country and world. Again we must care for each other and especially our victims. We must have the courage to ask not only who did this and how, but why, who is so full of hatred that they could cause this suffering? What can we do to lessen or transform it?

The Warrior Connection community is a national alliance of survivors of war trauma. We know how terribly violence wounds. We know it will take love and sensitivity for it to be healed.

Trauma anywhere can re-trigger old wounds as well as cause new ones. As the effects of the tragedy sink in on us, we at the Warrior Connection extend support, love and help to our community in coping with the aftermath. In the days and weeks to come, we urge all of you to take good and vigilant care of yourselves and support each other. Call, write, email, hug, talk and visit. Find ways to make meaning. Dedicate yourself to increased efforts at peace making, healing and understanding. "None of us is as strong as all of us."

May the trials of living through today become the stepping-stones for our growth and development toward a better tomorrow. Sending hope and prayers for the victims and survivors and love, support, concern and blessings to you all.

Anne Black,

executive director,

The Warrior Connection,

Dummerston, April 18
