Letter: Drug lord in chief
After reading "The C.I.A. and Me: How I learned Not to Love Big Brother," by Alfred W. McCoy (on counterpunch.org) recently, I instantly wondered if the CIA had offered Trump a cut of their heroin trade and if that's why there's no end in sight to war in Afghanistan. I wondered if Trump was now our fifth drug-lord president
in a row. McCoy chronicles a career of documenting official complicity in drug trafficking and the threats he has endured, as a result.
Wherever our CIA and military go, drug trafficking has exploded — from Vietnam to Latin America to the Balkans to Afghanistan. Anyone concerned with the opium epidemic in America should be asking repeatedly whether our so-called National Security State, our Shadow Government (that former CIA-guy Kevin Shipp is hell-bent on exposing), is fueling that epidemic.
As for administrative branch complicity, there is overwhelming documentation, beginning with McCoy's own voluminous writing. Additionally, there is Navy Lt. Cmdr. Al Martin's book, "Conspirators: Secrets of an Iran-Contra Inside," Roger Morris's chapter "Little Rock and Mena" in the book "Partners in Power," Gary Webb's "Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion," Rep. Maxine Waters' foreword to Webb's book, and Pete Brewton's "The Mafia, CIA & George Bush," to name just a few sources.
As for Obama, one of the first things he did upon entering office was to drop all pretense of opium eradication in Afghanistan. And former NSA-guy Wayne Madsen has detailed Obama's CIA upbringing: "President Obama's own work in 1983 for Business International Corporation, a CIA front that conducted seminars with the world's most powerful leaders and used journalists as agents abroad, dovetails with CIA espionage activities conducted by his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham in 1960s post-coup Indonesia on behalf of a number of CIA front operations, including the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Ford Foundation.
Dunham met and married Lolo Soetoro, Obama's stepfather, at the East-West Center in 1965. Soetoro was recalled to Indonesia in 1965 to serve as a senior army officer and assist General Suharto and the CIA in the bloody overthrow of President Sukarno.
As for Clinton, one should research our Serbian war and our support for the Kosovo Liberation Army. And, of course, Mena.
