Letter: I support Dunne, Smith

I support Dunne, Smith

Editor of the Reformer:

I am writing in support of two candidates running for statewide office; Matt Dunne for governor and Shap Smith for Lt. Gov. There are others running in the primary and I'm proud to say that I'm friends with all of them, which makes this endorsement all the more difficult. It's not easy to choose when they are all very qualified.

I've known both Matt and Shap for many years and have watched them work. Matt Dunne has a strong proven record through his work in the Vermont State House as well as serving as an executive with Google. He is a very savvy man and is the right person to lead us for the next two years.

In my three decades of working in our state's capital I've known six people who were chosen to serve as Speaker of the House. They all did Vermont proud. Being Speaker may be one of the most difficult, low-paying jobs ever. Shap Smith has served with distinction and will go down in Vermont's history as one of our best Speakers. If ever there was a proven leader it's Shap Smith.

I'm honored to endorse Matt Dunne for Governor and Shap Smith for Lt. Gov.

Bob Stannard, Manchester Center, July 20
