Letter: Militias only
Editor of the Reformer:
I applaud the clear and cogent reasoning of Richard Davis in his column on Oct. 22 ("The deadliest American sentence"). His piece makes it abundantly clear that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ties gun ownership in this country to the existence of a "well regulated militia." Davis points out that the Second Amendment does not prevent citizens from possessing guns, but that this is not a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Only the bearing of arms in a militia is a guaranteed right. Thank you, Mr. Davis, for you clarity on this issue.
