Letter: More thought needed
I want to caution everyone not to take any panhandling survey "results" at face value. The survey was not thoughtfully designed. In particular, the only way a respondent could leave comments on most (maybe all) responses was to answer "Other." This means respondents had to choose between answering "Yes" or "no," and providing information critical to interpreting their response in context, since the questions were so broad. If people chose "other," then the "yes" and/or "no" responses (no way of knowing which) will be undercounted; if they chose "yes" or "no," they lost the opportunity to provide details which could have informed the search for solutions.
