Letter: Sy's Fund volunteers thank local merchants
Sy's Fund volunteers thank local merchants
Editor of the Reformer:
Sy's Fund supports young adults facing cancer with much needed support. It may provide childcare during treatment, fund a creative passion such as photography, or facilitate alternative treatment including acupuncture and massage. Sy's Fund was established in memory of Silas "Sy" Bennett who died of lung cancer in 2008 at the age of 29. Each year the Sy's Fund Golf Tournament at Crumpin' Fox in Bernardston, Mass., supports this effort. (For more information about Sy's Fund and next year's tournament visit sysfund.org)
As a Sy's fund volunteer I visited the downtown Brattleboro merchants to ask for prize donations for the golf tournament. I expected to encounter merchants who get constant requests. I anticipated some refusals. What I got was a warm welcome from each and every merchant. Almost every business contacted provided a prize for the raffle and thanked me for supporting such a good cause. The Sy's fund volunteers are overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of the Brattleboro merchants and thank them for their support and kind words.
We would particularly like to recognize the Trust Company of Vermont and Brattleboro Ford Subaru for their annual support. We also thank the following Brattleboro businesses: Ace Hardware, Advance Auto, Bee's Nest, Delectable Mountain, Emerson's Furniture, Everyone's Books, Grafton Cheese Company, Hotel Pharmacy, Mocha Joe's Coffee Roasters, Ramunto's Brick Oven Pizza, Renaissance Fine Jewelry, The Marina Restaurant, Twice Upon A Time, Zephyr Designs and Hidden Springs Maple in Putney.
