Letter: Tell us how we can help
Tell us how we can help
Editor of the Reformer:
The excellent editorial on gun violence on Dec. 10 ("Something we can do today"), coupled with the equally fine article on the NRA by Richard Davis that same day, gave us clarifications on a problem we share. They both painted a picture of a terrified society, with fear whipped up by the NRA. The NRA need us to be afraid, because guns are their reason for being, and the way they get money and power. I refused membership to the local shooting club, because they required membership in the NRA. That means little to either organization. I have written congresspeople, but that doesn't seem to do much either. What I'd like from the media is direction. When you have an excellent editorial — of which you provide many — please include a way that those of us who are in sympathy can act upon it. Columnists — and you have some great ones — please provide your readers with direction as to what to do. Give us one or two email addresses, or one or two other options, so that readers can help effect change. There are a lot more of us than there are of the 1 percent, but that 1 percent has the money and power. What can we do, besides voting, to bring some sanity to this and other issues, and to return the power to the people?
