Letter: Why is early childhood the answer?

Why is early childhood the answer?

Editor of the Reformer:

Improving our children's future strengthens our community. We can't wait one more day. Now is the time to get involved. We encourage everyone who recognizes the importance of families and children in our village to attend the upcoming Promise Community Forum and contribute your voice and ideas to the project. This event is the next step in the Bellows Falls Promise Community's plan, moving past discussion of data and concerns and into planning and action. The forum is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Central Elementary School in Bellows Falls.

The first years of life are a period of incredible growth in all areas of a baby's development. Early relationships with parents and caregivers promote healthy brain development, help children build important social and emotional skills, and support language and literacy development starting right at birth.

We must reconsider long-held notions about how we support children and families in our community. Now is the time for the people of Bellows Falls to come together, create solutions and develop plans that will strengthen families and bridge the opportunity gap among children in the village. We hope that you will join us for this important forum. Quality childcare and food is provided. For more information, call Emilie at 802-363-5710 or find us on Facebook at the Bellows Falls Promise Community.
