Letter: Your thanks

Editor of the Reformer:

You might have missed it but on Saturday June 18th there were nearly 100 very small princesses, dragons and other magical creatures crossing Route 30 from the Retreat Meadows on their way to the forest. Led by a medieval jester and a bagpiper, this group marched up the hill to the Retreat Tower. At the top they were met by two knights in shining armor who gave them certificates and magic wands to celebrate their achievement. A fully outfitted Queen and King made pronouncements to the crowd.

This was the first annual Magical March to fundraise for Windham Child Care Association. Our organization provides valuable services for children, families and the childcare providers in our community. Together we raised over $2500.

Upon returning from the march, children enjoyed pizza donated by Ramunto's and ice cream donated by Sodexo. Leader Distribution Systems provided the bottled water. Entertainment was plentiful with jugglers, face painters and puppet shows presented by Sueno LeBlond of the Early Learning Express bookmobile program. A giant fish sculpture made by Cynthia Houghton was unbound and created a fish parade carried by parents and children. Costume Ladies provided authentic medieval outfits. Brattleboro's very own Alfred Hughes, Jr. beautifully attired, was master of ceremonies awarding prizes and gifts.

Thank you to everyone who made this fundraiser so successful! Most especially to Phelan Muller our bagpiper, Russ Nadeau the juggler, Ian Bigelow and Seth Putnam our shining knights. We had help from Carole Mills, Donna Jacobs, Robin Therrien and Erica Smith and the Windham Child Care Association staff and board members (past and present).

A big thank you to our sponsors Brattleboro Savings & Loan, Silver Forest and Happy Hands: A School for Little People as well as Brattleboro Community Television and Em Richards for capturing and producing video for the event.

And most of all thank you to the Brattleboro Retreat for providing us with invaluable help to make our first annual Magical March to the Tower such a success!

Kay Curtis Chair, Board of Directors Windham Child Care Association, July 20
